Ensuring funding from Google under the Online News Act is distributed in accordance with the Online News Act and Regulations. Only eligible news businesses (as defined by Section 27 of the Act) should receive funding. Per the Online News Act Application and Exemption Regulations: SOR/2023-276, the distribution must be based “only the number of full-time equivalent employees who, in the previous calendar year, were employed by each news business for the purpose of producing, for news outlets operated by that business, original news content that is intended to be made available online.”

It is an advocate in public policy for daily and community media outlets and contributes to the ongoing evolution of the news media industry by raising awareness and promoting the benefits of news media across all platforms.
