• Transportation: the Red Cross has been actively involved in the area of drowning research, boating safety and first aid for more than 60 years. Hence, we work with Transport Canada - Office of Boating Safety and Marine Safety in these areas.

• Disaster Management: We work closely with Public Health Agency of Canada, Public Safety Canada, CIDA, Foreign Affairs and National Defence in this core area of focus. Hence, we participate to Fed.Gov. Advisory and Standing Committees and are asked to present when needed on issues related to policies, plans and programs related to emergency management (i.e., activities in emergency preparedness, mitigation, response and recovery) at domestic and international level. Any support from the government help build our surge capacity and allow the Society to help the most vulnerable and build community resilience in Canada and abroad.
• Health: all Red Cross programs are health related and each focus on different issues of health: injury prevention, violence prevention, international/global health issues, emergency management for health emergencies/crisis like pandemics, climate change, water sanitation, health emergency response unit/field mobile hospitals, etc.
• Immigration: newcomers to Canada are considered vulnerable people for Red Cross and might need help and humanitarian assistance. Hence, the target clienteles for Red Cross Humanitarian Issues Programs like Restoring Family Links and Detention Monitoring are mainly migrants/newcomers.
• International Humanitarian Law: the Statutes of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement provide that National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies shall disseminate and assist their governments in disseminating international humanitarian law. Hence, the Government of Canada and the Canadian Red Cross created the interdepartmental committee known as the Canadian National Committee on Humanitarian Law for this purpose. The committee was established by memorandum of understanding in March 1998 and has representatives from Foreign Affairs and International Trade, National Defence, Justice, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, CIDA and the Canadian Red Cross. No funding has been allocated to date but more support from Government would certainly help the Red Cross achieve its goals and assume its responsibilities in this area.
• International Operations: All funding for our International Operations comes from CIDA various Branches and contribution programs. The Red Cross international operations include the following initiatives: emergency & recovery initiatives, development/health programming, delegates program, restoring family links; hence we must work closely with CIDA, Foreign Affairs, CIC, DND, Health Canada/PHAC and Public Safety Canada/CBSA when needed and as appropriate.
• Justice: the Red Cross RespectED: Violence & Abuse Prevention Program is directly linked to some Justice priorities related to crime prevention and family/interpersonal violence. Moreover, the Red Cross has a key role to play in the dissemination and promotion of International Humanitarian Law and protection of the Red Cross emblem in Canada. dissemination and

• Aboriginal Affairs: the Red Cross' strategic plan includes objectives and priorities related to the safety and well being of Aboriginal Peoples. Any support from government to expand and improve our programs and services for Aboriginal peoples would help achieve our goals and humanitarian mission.
• Organizational Capacity and auxiliary to government consultation process.Organizational Capacity / Auxiliary to Government:Funding received from Public Safety Canada, Policy Development Contribution Program for 18-month project March 2007 to October 2008.One of the main goals of this initiative is review and renew the Canadian Red Cross Society (CRCS) Act and national framework of cooperation between the Red Cross and the public authorities.
• Sports: the Red Cross has two programs directly related to sports: its swimming & water safety program, and its violence & abuse prevention in sports environnements program. Hence, we do have contacts sometime with Sports Canada in these program areas and with the Public Health Agency of Canada in the injury prevention and healthy living areas.
